It was a very nice opportunity to experience the atmosphere in an European competition and to meet and play with different players. I learned so much in just a few days“.

Copenhagen Footvolley players competes in Open Berlin
The two duos Morten Levinsen and Mathias Sander Egede, and Tobias Barbosa and Matheus Nascimento participated in the European tournament EFL Open Berlin. Unfortunately, this event didn’t result in a Danish victory since both teams lost all of their games in the group stages.
The tournament was set up to have an intense training camp throughout the week leading up to the tournament, but due to work the Danish boys unfortunately couldn’t participate in all of the sessions. On Friday afternoon, the players joined their first and only training session before the tournament start.
At a stunning location in central Berlin, the games were held in the unique volley-facility Beach61 in the area of Schönneberg. The facility can pride itself of having more than 40 beach volley courts that are entirely packed each night. Tobias Barbosa dreams: “What a place, and what a dream it would be to have a similar facility in Copenhagen!”
The tournament was blessed with beautiful weather, sun and +30 degrees that lasted the whole weekend, with 20 male teams and 9 female teams with countries such as Israel, Germany, Italy, Greece, Sweden, Brazil, Austria, Ukraine, Switzerland, Holland represented.
Even though EFL Open Berlin didn’t result in a Danish win, it was still educational and a historic tournament seen from the Danes eyes. It was only the 2nd time Denmark was represented in an international tournament. These experiences are golden to the boys, who get to feel the level, the passion, and experience how European top players train and behave in different stages of a tournament. “It has given us hunger and motivation to become better, train more and adjust a lot of details technically and tactically. The players here have given us a lot of inputs, which we hopefully can bring back and share with the other players in the club” tells Tobias Barbosa.
Likewise, it was Matheus Nascimento’s first international tournament who shares his experience: “It was a very nice opportunity to experience the atmosphere in a European competition and to meet and play with different players. I learned so much in just a few days“.
The male winners were Brazilian Diego Silva, also known as Maradona and his partner Ivan Grom from Ukraine who convincingly won in a very dominating manner. Amongst the females, the duo Austrian Antonia Missethan and Italian Sara Cupellini took the tallest stand as the winners of the tournament.
The tournament was organized by the Austrian footvolley brand Bolao Sports together with Hertha BSC Berlin Footvolley..
Copenhagen Footvolley and all the players thank you for a warm welcome and a well-organized tournament.
